Four weeks of vacation. For the first time in years, I have not planned any trips or things to do. Instead, I decided to have a summer of writing.
What is a summer of writing for me? A summer of writing means that I give myself time to work on my manuscripts, work on my new business, and focus on my health. I aim to:
- Meditate at least 30 minutes a day.
- Exercise at least 60 minutes a day.
- Write or work on my writing for at least 60 minutes a day.
- Read or listen to an audio book for at least 45 minutes a day.
By the time I’m writing this, I’m way through my vacation. The first week of the vacation I unwound, relaxed, and tried to shake off all the stress from work. Spring has been intense, so I needed to land and recharge my batteries. Meditating, focusing on quality sleep (read more about how to create good sleep habits in the Why We Sleeppost), and exercising every day have made a big difference.
During the last week I have managed to get into a good writing flow – some days I have written/edited up to 5000 words. The goal for the summer is to finish editing the first draft of my manuscript Northern Lights (work name). I’m halfway through it. To get through the whole thing, I need to edit/write around 2000 words a day for the next two weeks. We’ll see if I succeed, but if I don’t that’s okay too, I’m just so grateful for how productive I’ve been so far.
Last but not least, I’d like to share my best tips for boosting productivity. You can do this by finding routines that encourage creativity and productivity. I write morning pages every day, meditate, exercise and schedule time for writing and other creative activities. How do you achieve your goals and deadlines?
